Estrogen is a well-known supplement brand that helps women in menopause. It has been on the market for over 20 years and has developed several menopause supplement products targeting specific symptoms.
Why you might need a menopause supplement
Menopause is a time of change in a woman’s body. So, before we begin talking about Estroven supplements specifically, it is important to discuss why you might even turn to a supplement in the first place.
At a certain point in a woman’s life, female sex hormones begin to decline, and we no longer have menstrual periods. With changes in hormones come many symptoms as our bodies learn to adjust. This transitional time between having periods and being fertile to have no periods and not being fertile can take several years and be a bit rocky.
Surprisingly, menopause is only one day in your life when you have gone 365 days without a period (unrelated to other causes like pregnancy, breastfeeding, hormonal contraception, etc.). The years leading up to that one day are called perimenopause, and this is a time where women can experience numerous symptoms (like 34 symptoms, and that list is growing!). Symptoms don’t just stop when you reach menopause, however. They can go on for several months to years.
Common symptoms women in perimenopause and menopause experience include:
- Hot flashes
- Night sweats
- Low libido (or in some cases high libido)
- Irregular periods (limited to perimenopausal women only)
- Vaginal dryness
- Weight gain
- Difficulty sleeping
- Joint pain and muscle aches
The list goes on and on.
Many of these symptoms can be intense and debilitating, and they certainly can last a long time. So, women need solutions to help them feel better, and a common solution is to use dietary supplements. So now, let’s turn our focus to Estroven to see what they have done to help address the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.

A Look At the Estroven Ingredients
Each supplement contains different ingredients to target different issues. In general, though, each product contains black cohosh and soy.
Black cohosh is a plant medicine that people have used for centuries. Originally used by Native Americans to treat various ailments, European settlers learned of its uses and took it back to their home countries, where it became commonplace for women to use it to relieve reproductive ailments. The medication comes from the roots and rhizomes (which are underground stems). You can take black cohosh in a powdered whole herb form, as a liquid, or in a pill.
Numerous studies are looking at how effective black cohosh is for treating perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms. Mostly, the studies look at hot flashes and night sweats. However, one of the challenges of conducting these studies is a wide variation in chemical compositions occurs between plants. Therefore, it is difficult to gauge just how effective (and safe) black cohosh really is, as it is difficult to standardize. Yet, this is true with most plant-based compositions.
Nonetheless, it does appear effective for many women because numerous women have turned to its aide for decades now, and it continues to be a primary ingredient in most menopause supplements.
The other primary ingredient in the Estroven supplements is soy. Studies show that soy mimics estrogen in the body, potentially making it bind to estrogen receptor sites. Because of this mimicry, soy is considered a phytoestrogen.
Women who cannot take HRT or would prefer not to take synthetic hormones often turn to soy. In general, studies show that soy is a relatively safe and effective alternative. Indeed, a comprehensive literature review in 2019 found that soy may help reduce hot flashes but also may slow bone loss on the spine, improve systolic blood pressure, and improve blood sugar control.
One of the downsides of soy is that some women cannot take it because they have a personal or family history of breast cancer. Other women may have an allergy or sensitivity to soy. Therefore, it is important to talk with your doctor before taking a soy supplement to ward off any adverse outcomes.
Estroven Side Effects
The most common side effect people taking this supplement may experience is an upset stomach. Indeed, that is a typical possible side effect with most supplements and even medications. Some of the rarer side effects women may have include:
- Breast pain
- Bleeding unrelated to your period
- A rash
- Weight gain
- Low energy
The Big Question: Does Estroven Work?
In a look at Estroven reviews, it does appear that this brand of supplements works for many women. However, there are also women who have not seen results with these supplements, or in a small number of cases, they have had side effects and adverse outcomes. (Of course, this is the case with any supplement or medication.) Here’s a more detailed look at what the Estroven reviews say.
Positive reviews for Estroven
Each supplement has a different review system on popular retailers like Amazon, CVS, and Walmart. However, a broad overview shows that the supplement generally receives 4.5 out of 5 stars. Each supplement has well over 1,00 reviews (many have over 4,000 reviews).
Based on the reviews, the most popular supplement appears to be the Estroven Complete, which claims to offer support for some of the most frustrating menopause symptoms. Women who like the supplements say they have primarily helped curb hot flashes. Yet, when you look at each supplement more specifically, some women also positively respond to what they are trying to treat (like sleep issues or mood stability).
Estroven weight management supplements (for perimenopause and menopause) both seem to be popular choices as well, as they contain CQR-300, which may have anti-obesity actions.
Negative Reviews for Estroven
Most negative reviews say that it didn’t work for them, or they wish they hadn’t spent so much money on the supplement. Few reviews in each supplement type also report adverse responses, such as an upset stomach or jitteriness.
If you are trying to settle on a menopause supplement, you are already on the right track. Researching different supplements is a great way to begin learning what may help you in your perimenopause journey. Definitely compare supplements to other brands, too, such as Amberen vs. Estroven. And, most importantly, consult your doctor before adding anything new to your treatment plan.
