Finding the right menopause specialist, who can help navigate the sometimes rocky perimenopause transition is hard. Many feel alone in the journey to find the perfect match and someone who understands even the weirdest seeming symptom. In our perry community app we survey every quarter the best experiences with menopause practitioners (for now in the US only).

From that we issue a top 5 menopause specialists which have been recommended by the perry sisters – to share those recommendations with others.

How this selection is being made

Rachel Pope, MD, MPH, is an obstetrician/gynecologist in the Department of Urology with an appointment in the Department of Reproductive Biology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. She is fellowship trained in global women’s health, specifically in childbirth injuries, including obstetric fistula in sub-Saharan Africa. She has additional training in vulvar and vaginal disorders and sexual dysfunction. She has an interest in vaginal reconstruction and provides surgical care for women with vesico-vaginal and recto-vaginal fistulas, postpartum birth injuries, cancer survivors, women with sexual dysfunction, and individuals undergoing gender affirmation surgery. Dr. Pope’s research is primarily focused on obstetric fistula and public health topics, including reproductive health and SARS-CoV-2, and barriers to women’s sexual and reproductive health care.

2. Marion M. Pandiscio MD – located in Bradenton, Florida

HRT experienced, NAMS certified and LISTENS. Highly recommended, she was my 5th doctor after being dismissed by others who acted like a jerk. She is a godsend.

Marion M. Pandiscio, MD, FACOG joined Manatee Gynecology in 1996. She is from Massachusetts and attended Brown University, where she earned her undergraduate and medical degrees. After completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, RI, she served in the U.S. Air Force. She came to Bradenton in 1996.

Dr. Pandiscio is board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology. She has a special interest in menopause medicine and is a member of the North American Menopause Society, as well as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

3. Nishath Athar Ali, MD – located in Houston, Texas

Spends lots of time with her patients, really listens. She is not narrow-minded or arrogant in her approach. Dr,. Ali is willing to consider a wide array of treatment options.

Dr. Nishath (Nina) Ali is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist in the division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her professional society memberships include Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, Texas Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Texas Medical Association, The American Medical Association, The North American Menopause Society, and The Harris County Medical Society.

Dr. Ali’s clinical focus is on management of menopausal transitions using a balance of nutrition, wellness, and hormone therapy. Her work with the Menopause Center emphasizes a comprehensive approach to women’s health. In her efforts, she has been recognized as a certified menopause practitioner by the North American Menopause Society. Dr. Ali also has expertise in the management of fibroids, menstrual problems, ovarian cysts, and pelvic pain. She performs minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery and office hysteroscopy.

4. Gail Delasho, MD – located in Purchase, NY

My favorite menopause specialist. Great Listener, takes her time with you, recommends a holistic approach to managing menopause symptoms – doesn’t focus on the meds only.

About:

Dr. DeLasho has been in private practice in White Plains since 2001. In her gynecology- only practice, she sees women of all ages, with a special emphasis on perimenopause and menopause. She is board certified and is a Fellow, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists. After receiving her medical degree from St. George’s’ University School of Medicine, Dr. DeLasho completed her residency training at Boston City Hospital and an ultrasound fellowship at King’s College Hospital in London, England.

She was previously attending staff at Saint John’s Episcopal Hospital, where she supervised residents and house physicians. After that, Dr. DeLasho was a staff physician with Kaiser Permanente and served as the OB/GYN department’s acting chief. She is a member of The North American Menopausal Society and The Westchester OB-GYN Society. She is affiliated with White Plains Hospital and The Rye Ambulatory Surgery Center. Dr. DeLasho joined Westmed Medical Group in September 2013.

5. Wen Shen, M.D., M.P.H. – located in Lutherville, MD

Dr. Shen is a NAMS certified Practioner and a woman in the same area of life. There is no question she will not answer. Medical anxieties are always addressed and never blown off. I arrived after 2 years of medical gaslighting and she treated me with respect and compassion. She gave me my life back.

About

Wen Shen is an associate professor of clinical gynecology and an associate professor of oncology at the oncology center in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She is also the clinical director of the Menopause Consultation service and Co-Director of the Women’s Wellness & Healthy Aging Program.

Dr. Shen has concentrated on menopause medicine for more than 15 years. She specializes in treating peri-menopause and menopausal symptoms taking into consideration the woman’s overall health. She often works with her patients’ primary care provider to recommend non-hormonal therapies, alternative treatment options and menopause hormone therapy as appropriate for the individual patient.

In addition to clinical care, Dr. Shen focuses on educating her patients, other physicians and future physicians on women’s post reproductive health. She is engaged in clinical trials for new therapies for the treatment of menopause symptoms. She is actively developing curricula and educational aids for future physicians and health care providers on menopause medicine and the importance of healthy aging.
