My Boss Didn’t Believe In Menopause

September 22, 2020.

Tell us a bit about yourself and the fabulous Rants & Big Pants community.

We’re Neens, DB, Janey & Co

Like all families, we are opposites in every way and that’s why we have lasted as long as we have.

Our little gang of 3 (small in number, big in noise) has been going strong now for over seventeen years.

People often ask what our secret to friendship is…ours is simple…we never argue but we do shout a lot at each other.
We figured out long ago that the person who is the loudest is the one who thinks they’re right….
generally it’s a two person contest between Neens and dB.
But mainly when we’re together there is one winning ingredient…we laugh…at life, at each other,
at Neens’ inability to get words of a song correct, at Janey just being a lady and at dB for her rants about everything and anything.

When did you realize the first time … damn can this be perimenopause?

Once I joined Instagram and realised women were having the same symptoms as me I realised it was  “real” so probably about 18months a go.

What was your biggest Perimenopause WTF? moment?

Sorry what was the question? I’ve forgotten!!!!  – think that says it all.

How did your relationships, friendships and more importantly yourselves change during this stage of life?

So far my friendships haven’t changed but my family will tell you some days I’m “bat shit crazy”

What do you think remains the biggest taboo for women and what should we talk about more?

Memory loss, lack of concentration and peeing ourselves when laughing. That happens a lot! In all seriousness I think workplaces need to be aware of how “real” this is as my old boss didn’t believe in the menopause and thought it was a state of mind.
She just hadn’t had any symptoms so simply didn’t understand.

What would you advise your younger self for this time period? And would the younger you listen?

I most definitely wouldn’t have listened I was and still am too care free but I would say… “when your memory and concentration start to fail you, don’t panic that you have Alzheimer’s it’s merely a symptom
