Which Should You Choose: Estroven, Amberen or Profemin?

July 24, 2020.

It can be challenging to decide what perimenopause supplements are for you. If any at all. To help you decide if perimenopause supplements are for you, we have done some of the research for you on making a decision between the top perimenopause supplements: Estroven, Amberen or Profemin.

Estroven

Estroven has been making menopause-relieving supplements for over twenty years.

They have created different products to help alleviate perimenopause and menopause symptoms. Some of their products specifically target certain symptoms including weight gain, mood, sleep, stress, and energy along with offering menopause relief.

Estroven Complete claims to relieve:

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Stress
  • Mental exhaustion
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Anxiety
  • Libido
  • Vaginal dryness

The product also claims to improve urinary and bladder health.

Estroven Ingredients

Women who take Estroven are recommended to take one caplet per day. Estroven is marketed as a vegetarian, hormone and estrogen-free, soy-free, non-GMO, MSG-free, vegan, and gluten-free. Estroven’s supplements may contain any of the following active ingredients based on which product you choose:

  • Standardized black cohosh root
  • Soy isoflavones
  • Magnolia bark
  • Melatonin
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Synetrim CQ
  • Rhapontic Rhubarb

While herbal supplements for menopause have not been widely studied, some of the ingredients in Estroven’s products have been clinically tested including black cohosh.

Estroven Reviews

Estroven has 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon for most of its menopause-relieving products. Many of their products have over 1,000 reviews.

  • Customers who have left positive reviews write that Estroven relieved or even cured hot flashes, improved energy levels, and boosted their mood. Most women who noted a timeline in their reviews found that they experienced relief after about a month of consistent use.

  • Negative reviews indicated that Estroven did not work or some women who were sensitive to melatonin had a negative experience using these products. Some women also wrote that although Estroven improved their symptoms it caused them to start their period, even after having been menopausal for over two years.

Estroven Side Effects

While Estroven has been marketed as a safe product, long term studies have not been conducted on the safety of this product. Some of the ingredients in Estroven can yield side effects that women should be aware of, such as those caused by black cohosh. This herb has been linked to stomach upset, rash, headaches, dizziness or lightheadedness, joint pain, and a slower heart rate. There are also studies that link black cohosh to liver damage.

Amberen

Amberen is unique to the market because it does not contain herbs or hormones to treat menopause symptoms.

Rather, Amberen contains an innovative formulation of bioactive antioxidants, amino acids, minerals, and vitamin E. The ingredients claim to round up free radicals in your body and increase cellular energy production

and enzyme synthesis to help improve the function of your hormone-producing organs.

This product claims to relieve:

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Mood swings
  • Low energy
  • Insomnia and fatigue
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Difficulty concentrating

Amberen Reviews

Amberen has a 3.9 out of 5-star rating on Amazon with over 1,000 reviews. As with most supplements, there are a handful of positive and negative reviews that are worthy of potential customers taking note.

  • Positive reviewers claim that Amberen gave them back their life, cured hot flashes, boosted energy, and boosted their mood and overall outlook on life. Some reviewers even noted an improvement in weight gain.
  • Negative reviewers have suggested that the product worked for them for some time and then quit working or never worked. Profemin Reviews

According to everyone’s favorite online marketplace, Amazon, Profemin reviews are about equal in terms of positive and negative reviews.

  • Women who have left positive reviews claim that Profemin has relieved hot flashes, night sweats, and aches and pains. Some reviewers claim the product started working within one week, although most find noticeable differences after about a month of use. However, most reviews claim that the supplements make menopause symptoms more manageable but do not entirely remove their symptoms.
  • Negative reviewers wrote that Profemin either did not make a difference in their symptoms or further aggravated their symptoms. Some women reported that Profemin made them jittery and agitated. Both positive and negative reviews indicated that the product is expensive and may be hard to continue purchasing on a monthly basis.

The Bottom Line on Perimenopausal Supplements

Perimenopause and menopause are natural processes the female body goes through. Unlike a disease, there is nothing to “treat” in perimenopause because this is a normal part of the female reproductive cycle. However, that doesn’t mean handling the symptoms should be a breeze. In fact, perimenopause symptoms can be a b*%&$ and make life feel pretty rough at times.

If you are suffering from perimenopause symptoms, supplements may help you. But before just grabbing something off the shelf or sending it to your mailbox, check with your doctor on what supplements they may recommend for you. For example, you can ask your doctor the pros and cons of Amberen, or discuss whether Estroven Complete or Profemin is a safe option for you.

Indeed, supplements are regulated differently compared to drugs. Finally, while we can help you understand some of the supplements you may find on the market, your doctor is the best person to help make a recommendation on how to manage your perimenopause symptoms.
